The only compatible version of "iWork" would be the retail box set of iWork '09. You may still find some of those at Amazon or through other resellers of Apple software, or on eBay and similar sites. Do NOT purchase the "Trial version" installer. The Trial version works for 30days after installation, then requires an activation code. The servers that provided those codes have been offline for several years now, as have the servers used to recognize the code and register the change from trial to authorized.
Post iWork '09, the three applications of that suite were treated as separate applications, available by download only. The App store carries only the most recent versions of the three applications, so a direct download from there of the earlier versions compatible with El Cap will not be available there.
If you have the '09 versions installed on your MBP, you may be able to download and install Numbers 3, Pages 4 and Keynote 5, but that is likely something you'd need to contact Apple regarding. Last version of Numbers compatible with El Capitan is 3.6.2; Pages and Keynote have the same .6.2 ending.
Good luck!

Barry
