Getting FaceTime on an old Ipad

I am trying to have my son do FaceTime on my Old Ipad but it will not take my apple id. Not sure why any help would be appreciated because I have to let him use my phone to talk to his friends. Not sure which version of this is.

Facetime Help please community so proud of my father at age 82 has purchased a new iPad. It does not have sim facility. he wants to FaceTime to his son who does not have an apple phone but does have an iPad my dad does not have an apple phone, just an ipad I cannot from contacts or from FaceTime app get a video call I’m not too techno savvy either is it possible to FaceTime iPad to iPad with email ?
