Upgrading Macbook Air Mid 2011 from OS 10.9.5 to High Sierra

Hello,

I have a Macbook Air from MId 2011. It is only operating on 10.9.5 and I need to update because tons of programs won't work unless I can update the OS & then the browser. However, I keep getting stuck in the process.

What's the furthest I can jump in one update? Will I have to do a bunch of OS version steps to get up to High Sierra?

Please help :)

Kelly
