I’m stuck at login!

After the latest update for Catalina (wed. nite) I am unable to login to my MacBook Pro (mid-2015). It will get stuck on the screen after I enter my password. When I was updating, my computer seemed to freeze after the installation and restart, where I saw the loading bar. I got impatient, shut it down by holding the power button. Now, I’m unable to get past the login screen. Before contacting Apple Support, I tried pretty much all the help topics I found, i.e. resetting PRAM, rebooting in safe mode, rebooting in Recovery Mode, which everything came back with all green check marks. When I contacted Apple, they had me reinstall macOS, 3 different times, but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try now? I have included a before and after photo of what I’m talking about.

Here’s the after...take note that I’ve circled the little wheel in red, and this is where it gets stuck, this little wheel will continually turn, I’ve not encountered an end to this.

First of all do you have a recent backup of your data?

When Apple had you reinstall macOS did Apple have you perform a clean install by first erasing the physical drive?

If you performed a clean install did you try the laptop before migrating or restoring from a backup? If you did not perform a clean install or you did perform a clean install, but restored or migrated from a backup before testing, then you will still have any software or preferences issues still causing the problem.

Did you run the Apple Diagnostics?

Try resetting password.

    Reset Password

Reset Administrator / User Login Password from macOS Recovery  and create a new Keychain.

macOS Sierra 10.12, macOS High Sierra 10.13 and later

Shut Down the computer.

Start the computer, then press and hold down command and R keys to start into recovery partition.

When you see the Apple logo and the progress bar, release the keys.

You have to press hard the Trackpad to register the click.

Select the “Language”, if not already.

Click the arrow button at the bottom.

Wait until  OS X Utilities window shows up.

Move the mouse pointer to the menubar at the very top of the screen, click "Utilities” and then select "Terminal"

from the dropdown.

Terminal window will appear.

Type in   resetpassword   and press enter on the keyboard.

Reset Password window will open showing all user names.

Quit Terminal.

Select the user.

Click the “Next” button at the bottom.

Enter a new password, enter it again to verify, enter a hint and write down the password entered.

Click the “Next” button at the bottom.

Password reset confirmation message will appear.

Click the “Restart” button at the bottom.

Log in with the new password.

When Keychain dialog box appears, choose  “Create New Keychain”.

Having the exact same issue after Rebooting in recovery, safe mode etc. … It started with me not being able to login to my Apple ID from system preferences… Went through troubleshooting that for a day or two and now I can’t login when I restart my MacBook. Login wheel keeps spinning. Someone please help!

Please start a new thread making sure to provide the exact model of your computer and the version of macOS on it. Make sure to include all the troubleshooting steps you have already tried and any recent changes to the system. Try running the Apple Diagnostics. Even though the symptoms are similar the cause can be something entirely different. It gets too confusing helping more than one person in a thread.
