Charging 16" Macbook Pro with Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter

I recently bought the new 16" Macbook Pro. I was given a Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter by a friend, can i use it to charge my Macbook as an additional charger? Can it damage my battery?
