Hey Adityakrishna0027,

This article might be helpful

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203516#backingup

specifically under “If an alert says that there's not enough iCloud storage“

chances are, your next backup is larger than the available storage in iCloud

best thing to do in that case is upgrading

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201318

or making space (assuming your backup is less than 5GB in total)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204247

hope that fixes your concern.

best of luck

For sure.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204264 covers iCloud photos

https://support.apple.com/photos has support for the Photos app

basically,

  • iCloud photos is a saved copy of the photos stored on your device and
  • Photos is the application that allows you to see your photos

so one of them is a container (a place to hold your data) which is iCloud photos.

the other is an application (a tool) on your phone that allows you to view your pictures which is Photos.

Hey! Hope you’re doing well.

What storage size model is your iPhone?

check And screenshot the following if you’re ok with that, it’s totally fine if you prefer not to

settings > General > iPhone storage > storage details

I’m going to assume your iPhone is a 256GB or more model and if so, your phone is most likely holding more than 200GB of data and so,

assuming that is the case,

you have two options for resolution

  1. upgrade to the next tier of iCloud storage. Instructions for that here, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201318#ios. next tier after 200GB is 2TB I believe, and that should totally be enough to literally never get the message you’re getting as it can backup more than 2 devices at full capacity (512GB models) no problem
  2. clear our a few things like unused apps or whatever you find using up your iPhone storage locally. instructions for this here,

i would always look at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206504, using an iPhone with iCloud means you have two places to store your digital things. (Actually three if you count an iTunes or Finder backup.) You can use both or either one, whatever suits your needs.

When you buy an iPhone, the phone by itself, have X amount of storage capacity. This is the quickest type of storage in terms of retrieving your saved digital data and always used first to keep performance on your device at optimal level.

That said, next type is iCloud storage which is very similar to the storage on your iPhone except, it’s not on your iPhone. Its remote (long distance in range) and allows technology to create what appear like magical tasks to happen. Like backing up your iPhone, fully or sending a 4K 20 min video in a matter of seconds to a friend so he/she can enjoy whatever was captured. I hope I didn’t confuse you, around the whole there are places called data centers and so, Apple ensures your data is safe and out of unauthorized users hands and unreadable to anyone able to somehow get your data in an unauthorized manner. Apple’s security is top quality, and is trusted by many, keep the peace of mind that your data is safe and in the hands of one of the best. To summarize, iCloud storage is a type of storage that is remote meaning NOT part of the device itself.

Device storage is physically a part of your iPhone. (you can see and touch it, after taking apart your iPhone)

  • IMPACT TO ICLOUD: The amount of device storage USED is greater than the amount in iCloud that is AVAILABLE.
  • example: iPhone has 216GB of device storage used and I have 199GB of iCloud storage available. I CANNOT BACKUP because DEVICE STORAGE is NOT EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN the AVAILABLE iCloud storage. Device storage needs to be 199GB or less to ensure your device is backed up fully.

iCloud has a prioritization technique, this is an assumption based off observation, and will start with private and high importance data when backing up the first time, second time you decide to back up or it does it automatically, it increases the amount being backed up and goes down its prioritization importance of data until your device is fully stored in iCloud. It may take more than 24 hours for that to occur so just keep that in mind. Results are not immediate and things can appear like they aren’t working how you expect, but rest assured, they are. Remotely storage your data means using the internet and so imagine a computer having to recreate your photos with precisely and safely using air waves. Super wild! But yeah... it’s a lot of work and it’s work that Apple looks into making fast and safe to use.

well I rambled enough hehe, hope this helped.

stay safe and stay home to avoid exposure. Best of luck!

Follow my second response to verify the Next backup size.

i understand it’s giving you the message that it’s full and that is normal, with he your describing your situation.

even if you have available iCloud storage, you can still get that prompt if iCloud is trying to backup something bigger than the amount of storage you have available

example: I have 3GB of 5GB available but, looking at my next backup size (Settings > [your name at the top] > iCloud > manage storage > backups

> select the device that says “this iPhone” > next backup size will load) it shows me its 4GB. Being that I only have 3GB available, I can’t backup 1GB since I only have 3GB. Therefore I would need to increase or add more storage to iCloud to meet the requirements.

this article covers how to upgrade iCloud storage if you find that that is what you need
