iPhone 6s is disabled before set up

I reset my iphone 6S but did not set up iPay or a card with the phone. Before I got a chance to finish, my grand son "found" it and now it is disabled. Says to connect to iTunes. However, when I open iTunes on the laptop and then the phone through a USB, it is not recognized. How can I unlock this phone if I cannot get iTunes to recognize the device?
