Ipad 6th gen black screen

I have an 6th gen (A1893) Ipad that will not turn, I have tried the soft re-set but still have a black screen. When I plug it into a wall charger it makes the usual noise but the screen remains black. Sometimes I can hear clicks when the screen surface is touched. as if you're inputting the pin login. The screen came on briefly once after a soft reset. This issue appeared a few months ago but seemed to right itself. When plugged into a PC running Itunes there is no notification that an Ipad is connected. The Ipad is around 18 months old, has never left the house and as far as I am aware has not been subject to moisture or shock damage. Are they repairable at all, is this a known issue?
