Screen “Shaking” after watching hours of Netflix/YouTube or Skyping

I have encountered an issue where my screen starts to “shake” after watching hours of Netflix, YouTube, or Skyping. Has anyone else encountered this issue and have you managed to resolve it?

Hi desmond789,

Thanks for the reply, and that additional information!

Resetting your SMC and NVRAM were both great steps. To narrow this issue down, try creating a temporary user account on your Mac. Then log in there to see if the same behavior occurs. This type of behavior can have a number of causes, and knowing whether it's system-wide or user-specific would help to determine the next best steps: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Once you've tested, share the results here.

Kind regards.

Hi Desmond,

I'm having a similar issue. Mine Mine started out as a shaking screen and "evolved" into an horizontal lines effect, like the image below.

Did yours start after upgrading MacOS Catalina to version 10.15.4?

Try going to System Preferences> Energy Saver and unchecking Automatic Graphics Switching. It used to work for me.

Please let me know if you were able to solve your problem.

Hello desmond789,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. Keeping your iPhone running smoothly is a great idea, and I'd like to see if I can help. I understand you might be having an issue when you watch video for an extended period of time.

Can you clarify what's happening when you say the screen shakes? Are you referring to the image on your display, or does the display seem to be physically shaking?

Is this happening while your device is on the charger, off the charger, or both?

Also, does it happen in any other circumstances that you've noticed, or only after watching videos for a few hours as you mentioned?

When the issue occurs, does it stop if you Restart your iPhone?

Also, it may be helpful to ensure you're running iOS 13.4 under Settings > General > About: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Feel free to reply back with the answers to the questions above, and the community may be able to offer additional steps.

Have a great day.

Hi MoonJ,

I have just tried using a temporary user account, however the issue still persists. Thus, I believe this issue is not user-specific but rather system-wide.

I have just realized that the "shaking"/flickering of the screen display tends to occur when the screen is still on the same image and does not occur when the screen is moving (such as watching a video). Additionally, when I move my cursor across the screen, the screen will temporarily stop "shaking"/flickering, but as soon as I stop moving my cursor and the screen is still on the same image, the display starts flickering again.

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

This is an issue regarding my MacBook Pro mid 2017.

The image on my display is “shaking” like it is flickering up and downwards. This happens both when the charger is connected and not connected. This has been happening more often regardless if I have been watching hours of videos or not. But it happens more often when I do watch hours of videos. I have tried restarting my computer as well as restarting the SMC and the RPAM/NVRAM.
