can i keep my iphone 11 unlocked

While working at my desk, my phone sits in front of me just flat enough that it cannot see me for facial recognition to unlock it when I want to look at something, whether it be an alert, phone app, etc.

So, I have to pick it up for it to get a good view of my peepers.

I liked my fingerprint to the home button action on my 8 for this purpose.

Is there a way to set this phone to stay unlocked when:

  • within range of my Apple Watch?
  • Sitting on the wireless charger?

Sidenote: In the "What device is this related to?" pulldown that follows this text area, there is no reference to any iPhone 11's. Really???

Hi, CincyChris,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you'd like to know what options are available to you when it comes to unlocking your iPhone 11. I'm happy to provide you with some information!

Currently, the iPhone 11 can be set to unlock using a passcode: Use a passcode with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, Face ID with a passcode backup: Use Face ID on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support or to not lock in the first place.

If you have Face ID enabled, you can set the phone to require the passcode to unlock versus using Face ID. While you would have to enter the passcode onto the iPhone, you would not have to lift the phone. More information on how Face ID works can be found here: About Face ID advanced technology - Apple Support.

Alternatively, if you'd like to keep using Face ID to unlock your phone, you could try a charging dock that would stand your iPhone upright, giving your camera a better view of your face. You can see a variety of docks available through Apple here: iPhone Docking Stations - Apple.

Cheers!
