My Apple watch is only 5 months old but has stopped charging regularly. I'll set it on the charger, get the green lightning bolt but in the morning it isn't charged. It will "ding" several times randomly while sitting on the charger.
Some nights, it fully charges with no problem. It is sitting properly on the charger and everything is plugged in correctly.

First thing I would suspect is a faulty charging cable. Does it "ding" when you jiggle the cable? Another possibility is a bad connection with the USB power adapter (either end). Here are some other ideas:
