Issue downloading apps for iPhone XR

I just purchased an iPhone XR and I am having trouble downloading apps from the app store. When I choose an app and tap "Get" then it tells me to confirm the the side button. The side button pops up and says double click to install but it (toggles) moves back and forth and when I try to tap it right quick it does not do anything.
