The messages appear when i search in the messages app, but they will not stay there.
I have many chat transcripts in my archive I would like to restore into the messages app.
Surely there must be a way to do this. Please help

I understand you would like to restore messages that were on your Mac at one point. If you have a Time Machine backup of the computer prior to when the messages were deleted, you can restore them. If you have Messages in iCloud enabled, they cannot be restored. You could ask the person you were texting with to forward a copy of the conversation to you.
