Spam Group FaceTime Calls with over 32 members

Starting around 2 am this morning I began receiving group facetime calls from a mix of numbers in my contacts and random numbers I didn't have saved. Since then I've received about 7 more calls throughout the day. The calls only ring once or twice before ending. What's even more interesting is that, after going back through the numbers involved in the calls in the "recents" tab of the facetime app, there were more than the 32 total people involved with the highest being 59. The reason I think this happened is that every number was repeated once or twice. This is obviously pretty odd, and I would brush it off as spam or a prank but the fact that the same numbers were registered as being in the same call multiple times and that this caused there to be over the 32 person limit makes me think this is more than that. Anyone else have this issue or know anything about it?

I'm getting these MASS facetime calls... I don't know any of the numbers, but they're all my area code.

I picked up once and saw some people talking and hung up immediately.

I have no idea what this is and they won't stop.

How TF do I make it stop? 😩

My lady has had that happened and I thought it was some other guy so I answered for her, it was a bunch of young girls from different timezones the and everyone had there masks on luckily I had mine on too because when I answered they took screenshots. They also were asking if I wanted to be their friend for some odd reason. My lady still gets mass FaceTime calls

Sadly, the best is to disable FaceTime until this is fixed. In my experience, it is impossible to block numbers as part of the exploitation is to add random numbers faster than you can block. It is not that there are so many numbers in the chat, as this is the exploit to keep the call from being blocked. My guess is that this is from a hacked iPhone or app (~10 lines of code could drive this exploit- look for swift FaceTime for how easy this is). I have reported the exploit to apple and others. Will be looking up some security researchers to spread the word. I suggest that you report this to local/national news organizations and those that report or track security concerns like this.

This just happened to me!! It’s freaking 2:30A and I have been woken up by random FaceTime. I debated where to answer when I did I was met by a young man and woman. The girl saw that I answered and asked “If I liked balls in my butt” I’m going to be mad as heck if this is going to continue. After reading all the comments I’m just going to keep my FaceTime deleted for the time being.

My girlfriend got a strange FaceTime where it looked like room with red light and it had what sounded like a random message on loop over and over. We couldn’t get the app to close so I had to turn the phone off. When I turned it back on the call came again and this time we hung up and after that it didn’t happen again. It was creepy and I’m just curious if anyone else has had this issue?

This happened to me 2 nights ago. I received about 20 FaceTime attempts in about a 45 minute period. I ended up having to block every number on the thread. That seems to have stopped it.

it’s AMAZING that Apple doesn’t 1) have a decline feature 2) doesn’t have an option to not accept facetime from people who aren’t contacts. This could be easily solved, Come on Apple!!!

I answered one thinking it was a work call. About 15 numbers on the call. The person knew my name but I had no idea who he was. I hung up immediately. They called back about 5 times after that, each time with more people on the call. I finally shut down my phone. It’s happened about 5 or 6 times since then - sometimes 2am or 5am. I blocked the numbers but it doesn’t help. I think they have figured out they can get around the robocaller apps by using FaceTime. Very frustrating!
