Spam Group FaceTime Calls with over 32 members

Starting around 2 am this morning I began receiving group facetime calls from a mix of numbers in my contacts and random numbers I didn't have saved. Since then I've received about 7 more calls throughout the day. The calls only ring once or twice before ending. What's even more interesting is that, after going back through the numbers involved in the calls in the "recents" tab of the facetime app, there were more than the 32 total people involved with the highest being 59. The reason I think this happened is that every number was repeated once or twice. This is obviously pretty odd, and I would brush it off as spam or a prank but the fact that the same numbers were registered as being in the same call multiple times and that this caused there to be over the 32 person limit makes me think this is more than that. Anyone else have this issue or know anything about it?

You might want to consider removing your cell # from FaceTime settings but leave your Apple ID as a method of your contacts can reach you on FaceTime by entering your Apple ID. This was recommended by a senior Apple tech. My 80 year old mom is having the same thing happen to her. Apple recommends un-checking your phone number under FaceTime settings "where you can be reached" and this should stop the unwanted FaceTime group calls.

The Apple senior advisor also said to leave Feedback to Apple on what needs to be changed on FaceTime per this link:

Have received multiple(20-30)FaceTime calls the past 2 nights beginning around 2am. The first night I received a text about 5 minutes before the FaceTime calls started from one of the random numbers and all it said was “haha”. I haven’t answered any and have now disabled FaceTime. All of the numbers begin with the area code that is my area code. Has Apple offered any solutions other than disabling the app?

Agreed. Blocked should mean no more calls period and there should be an option for contacts only should we choose to only speak to people we know on FaceTime. I’m seriously considering going back to Samsung cause I think the breach is so huge. They call relentlessly and I can’t understand how a billion dollar company hasn’t addressed it and thinks it’s ok. It’s such a violation. who knows what they do if you accidentally answer. Can they hack your cell, your camera!!! I don’t know and I don’t want to find out.

At 12:30am, I also was part of a 22 member Facetime call. I was relentlessly called. One of the numbers was one digit off from mine. The Facetime abuse was followed by texts of tik tok videos with my Facebook photo as an icon in the corner! I don’t have tik tok and haven’t used Facebook this year. This is abuse and terrorism, using my photo, identification and number without my consent to used as part of this scam. I did not click anything, but have a screen shot.

Apple just needs to add a **** checkbox to SMS, FaceTime and Phone that makes it so you only get communication initiations from contact lists. Anyone who messages me out of the blue that I'm not expecting is 100% spam.

There might be some exceptions to short-codes like Twilio SMS mass messaging, but those services shouldn't be allowing mass spam. I get stuff from random people, random numbers, it's just crazy.

I'm ready to throw all my apple products in a box and never look back. Sad that these billion dollar companies can't spend a day to add 1 checkbox.

I understand how you feel. I have messaging on my other devices. They were all going off at the same time that the spam group FaceTime occurred. So do I need to worry about a virus or someone probing my personal information?

I answered the call in the middle of the night because I thought it might have been a family emergency. I didn't bother to check the number because I was half asleep.

Just don't answer the phone to unknown numbers is victim-blaming and deflection. I hope this is not the final resolution.

My lady has had that happened and I thought it was some other guy so I answered for her, it was a bunch of young girls from different timezones the and everyone had there masks on luckily I had mine on too because when I answered they took screenshots. They also were asking if I wanted to be their friend for some odd reason. My lady still gets mass FaceTime calls

My girlfriend got a strange FaceTime where it looked like room with red light and it had what sounded like a random message on loop over and over. We couldn’t get the app to close so I had to turn the phone off. When I turned it back on the call came again and this time we hung up and after that it didn’t happen again. It was creepy and I’m just curious if anyone else has had this issue?
