Updating/ Itunes issue

I have an Ipad2 which I haven't used in years and recently decided to try boot it up where it threw an error saying,"Your iPad could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable..." I heard this was a bug so I downloaded iTunes and updated my firmware to the latest which was 9.3.5 if I am not mistaken.

After the update it still had an issue and could not activate the ipad. Now another issue has popped up and it is my connection to Itunes. Now it says, " The Ipad (ipad name) could not be activated because the activation information could not be obtained from the device."

I am really at this point frustrated with having tried fixing this issue for the past 3 hours.

iPad2 is very old - formal support for which ended September 2016 after over five years of in-life support. As you have already discovered, iOS 9.3.5 was the final iOS release for WiFi Only models of iPad2.
