Mail App running in the background

In the last few days after updating to IOS 13.4 I noticed that when I checked the App activity under "Battery" the Mail app was reading over 5 hours in the background. I usually turn off all of the notification for the Mail App, and I selected the option "Manually" to get my emails. So there should be no reason for the Mail to be running in the background. Any idea what is causing this and how to stop it?

Thanks

Faisal

Do not know what's happening but I would certainly try to do some step:

  1. Force quit Mail app.
  2. Restart your iPhone.
  3. Check if you have any emails in Outbox that failed to sent.
  4. Check if any of your accounts is having connection issues.
  5. If still no go, turn off temporarily half of the accounts you use in Mail. If issue still is happening, test other half of the emails by disabling those that were tested in first place. This way, you can see in which half there is an account that is causing Mail running in background. If this is an account specific issue, remove the account and add it back only after the device is restarted.

Hello RawasF,

I see that you're seeing that the Mail is running in the background in the Activity Monitor. I can understand your concern, and I'd be happy to look into this with you.

Take a look at the following article with help with seeing how apps affect the performance of you Mac. Also, can you tell me if you are actually quitting the Mail app once you are done using it? Or have you tried to force quit using  > Force Quit?

Let me know how this goes and the answers to the questions above.

Have a great day!
