SOCKS proxy

My iMac keeps activating the SOCKS proxy every time I reboot; also, even after I've deselected SOCKS proxy, it reactivates automatically. Then, it keeps my Mail from loading (and who knows what else. How can I correct this problem?

I suspect you have installed adware/malware. Try running this trusted utility https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/

adware/malware launch daemons can set SOCKS proxies without user participation.

(SOCKS is an Internet protocol that exchanges network packets between a client and server through a proxy server.)
