changing phone service provider

I have an iphone XS and I am switching from AT&T to Spectrum for my cell service. Given the current quarantine we're all under, I'm planning to install the sim card myself (they sent it to me). Is there anything I should be aware of in terms of proper steps and/or data that might be lost? My phone is cloud synced so shouldn't need to be backed up, right?

iCloud sync doesn’t back up everything; for example, it doesn’t back up system settings. So do an iCloud backup to capture the things that sync doesn’t do. You also need to make sure your phone is not carrier locked to AT&T.

Have you checked with AT&T to make sure the phone isn't carrier locked?

No, I haven't. I bought my phone at an Apple store so didn't think of that. Thanks, will check.
