HOME SHARING problem with iTunes

Hi all,

I have 2 Apple laptops at home, a MacBook Pro (July 2009) and a MacBook (late-2006/early 2007 black coloured). Both have the latest version of iTunes and both have the latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

I've set up iTunes home sharing and can view the respective libraries from each laptop. The newer MacBook Pro can save files from the MacBook, however, for the first time, I tried to transfer the other way and it did not work, ie. save files on the old MacBook from the MacBook Pro.

Every time I try to drag & drop a file into the MacBook iTunes library from the home sharing list, it says that I do not have the necessary permissions. I have tried everything to authorise this type of transfer, but it just doesn't seem to work. Again though, I tried it the other way round on the MacBook Pro, and I was able to with no problems.

Does anyone have a solution? This is very frustrating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
JGhk

in order for home sharing to work

(a) iTunes on all machines must be authorized for the same iTunes store account(s)
(b) all machines must be on the same network
(c) all machines must have access to the internet.

try turning home sharing off on all computers, then turning it back on.

also, these reads might be useful: one and two.

Appreciate the message, but as I said, my transfers work one way, ie. from the MacBook to the MacBook Pro, but not the other.

I have made sure of the following, time and time again:
- iTunes on both my laptops have been authorised with the same iTunes account
- both my laptops are on the same network, which is created with a Time Capsule
- both my laptops have access to the internet

I also happened to read the 2 links you posted prior to posting my question; none of those forums are helpful.

The problem lies somewhere with the MacBook not having enough "permissions" to drag and drop, and thus save, files from the MacBook Pro over home sharing.

Please, can someone help, this is so stupidly frustrating...typical Apple.

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so

you may also give everyone read & write access.

the important part is to *apply to enclosed items* !
