I got a message saying that the Typewriter animation has been changed to "Appear by Character". The Typewriter animation is no longer listed as an option for Build-In.
Using Keynote v10.0.
The big problem is at "Appear by Character" does not export correctly to a movie (m4v).
How can I get Typewriter back, or fix the movie export?

No I have not. I ended up changing all the typewriter to either "wipe" or "dissolve by word". Both of those work.
I sure as heck am not going to back up everything, delete the app, reinstall the app, and jump through hoops for what is obviously a problem with the app upgrade. It needs to be fixed.
I have zero problems using Appear when exported to Movie.
I’m using Helvetica Neue, Medium. This happened, not only with older files that originally used typewriter, but with a new one I created today using Appear by Character.
Are you using the “Appear by Character” effect, which mimics “typewriter”? When exported to movie, it doesn’t appear by character, but appears the entire sentence.
I have the same problem and I can't figure out what it is. For me the error occurs only if there are other animations on the chart. Have anyone found a solution?
Doesn't the Keyboard animation do what the typewriter one did?
Im using Catalina 10.15.4 - Keynote 10.0 - font Helvetica Neue, Medium Build - effect Appear > animation by character
Try resetting Keynote by completing all of the following steps in the order listed:
