Try a Right-Click:

In the Mail program, clicking the File menu results in:
When you move the cursor to the top of a Mail message the following will appear:
That icon offers the same options as File > Save Attachments...
Catalina has not changed anything about it so it works the same way. Of course iPads are different a different story.

Drag & Drop:
Just click on the image, and then drag it to the Desktop, releasing the click. See if that works.
Hi. to all. ( John and the Little s )
afraid this did not work for me ( in Catalina). I cannot see or do a drag and drop from the picture. When I open up the jpeg I get:
1 a boxed arrow pointing upwards and either select save to account ( don’t know where that goes to or the other option is and I quote “ Share file via “ and I ask where does that go to ? sorry I find Macs harder to get into that the dreaded Microsoft that is o longer supported. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance
regards. John
File > Save Attachments... will do the same thing as the icon in my screenshot. It will bring up the standard "save" dialog where you can select your Desktop or any other location.
In general, "share" means to send or forward an item to someone else via messaging, email, AirDrop, Twitter... etc.
Thanks John. Where is your screen shot (this might help me( I am glad you mentioned about the “ share file VIA “ I won’t go down that route. At the moment I am using my iPad as the Mac is on charge. I just would like to be able to move this jpeg out of my emails. The person ( my daughter is using the Previous op and is not on Catalina ( shouldn’t think that would be a problem. ( thanks for persevering with me issue)
Hi to John and Littles
when in I right click on the image I get the following prompts
and i quote:
when i right click:-
Open image in a new window.
Open image in a new tab

Save images As ........
Add images to photos
Use images as desktop picture
Copy Image address

Now is Catalina different ?
Thanks for your patience John
To get my prompts on the screen I had to right click on the image I just want to know why my info is slightly different from the advice you have been giving me. Anyway that is ok all good and well. Thanks to all
👍
Lots of ways to do things on a Mac. I suppose that results in some confusion from time to time. Enjoy your Mac!
Click and a dropdown menu will appear.
Received your screen shot will try that and will get back to you thanks again
To the. Littles. Thanks for that I will try the screen shot once I get charged up
You are welcome.

Nope.
Save Images As... is what you want.
I didn't ask you to right-click anything but that's perfectly ok too. There are many ways of accomplishing what you seek.
A BIG thank you to all. Regards. jnscts
