Mid 2011 iMac no more OS updates?
I have a perfectly functional iMac 27" from Mid 2011, but I can't update the OS to Mojave, let alone Catalina. Will I ever be able to update, or has Apple written this computer off?

The hardware in the computer is unable to run Mojave or Catalina. Apple has not written it off, the hardware resources in a 9 year old computer are not up to the task of running the newer more demanding OS versions.
It's a fact of life with computers. There's a time where requirements for current operating systems are too high to meet for older computers.
In the case of Mojave and Catalina they require a special type of video card, that did not exist when a 2011 iMac was built.
High Sierra is as high as that iMac can go. You can still run current applications on it and should be able to do so for a few more years. But this is a good time to start saving up for a new computer.

No you won't but same iMac here & relieved that I don't have to upgrade to unfinished OSes that are more difficult to wrk with, 10.13.6 is just fine. :)
