Both right and left side play. However if I remove either one from my ear the one remaining in my ear stops working? Help! Using iphone11 with latest software.

That is correct, they should pause the playback when you remove one of them. Restart the playback on your device if you want to continue listening with one.
Thank you for this quick reply. Your comment made me open my mind and realize my stupidity. Your comment naturally WORKS. My older air pods which stopped working worked without having to restart (why I don’t know) they just picked up the transfer and continued on playing. Like Steve Jobs “They just worked”. 🤔. Thanks again and I truly appreciated your quick response.
