How do I remove 5 past years of emails from my iPad?

The easiest way would be to use safari to go to your mail provider’s web access - say you use yahoo, using safari, sign into yahoo.com. That way you can delete pages of emails at a time.

Delete them off the server they should also be removed from your device when you open the mail app back up
