few months ago when I downloaded a file on whatsapp it asked me at which folder to download it now when I download a file and it downloads it to "downloads" automatically how do I make it like it used to be? ask me where to download the files.

I entered whatsapps preference but it is not there...
If you do this from a browser, then you set the location in the browser's preferences.
