I have a perfectly good iPad mini 2 and would like to use it to read our news subscriptions through the apps. The apps open but won’t load any current content. Any ideas? I’ve taken everything else off the mini. Is it because I cat get new iOS updates? Any work around? Thanks

Your iPad mini2 can be updated to iOS 12.4.6 - this being the last supported update for this model. All Apple services, such as news, should still be fully functional. Do you have a particular problem?

My iPad mini 2 is the original version, and it won’t update beyond iOS 9.3.6. Many apps won’t support that, though I found a few. Just wondering if there’s anything I can do to update it. I checked Apple trade-in value and it’s only $20. Planned obsolescence of a perfectly good tablet makes me mad! It will read Apple News, and the print edition of Washington Post, but WSJ and NYT have no app that runs in iOS 9.3.6. Thanks if you have any ideas
If you cannot update past iOS 9.3.6 then you do not have an iPad mini 2, you have an iPad mini 1,

The iPad mini 1 hardware is too old and under powered to update to newer iOS.
iPad mini 1 has 32bit processor and 512 MB RAM
The latest iPadOS requires a 64bit processor and at least 2GB of RAM
According to the About” in settings, as well as when I put the serial number in for Apple trade in, it is a 16GB iPad mini 2. The first version. And won’t allow update past 9.3.6. I was just hoping someone in the community knew a work around, as it could be a useful reader if I could get the software update. Looks like we’re stuck with just the news apps that are simpler and older. Thanks for weighing in!
