My wife has been organizing our photos into albums and accidentally deleted the albums. The photos are still in the library, however, there are no albums listed anymore. Is there any way to restore them? I haven’t set up time machine with an external hard drive yet. Thanks for your help.

Sometimes Photos remembers the deleted albums.
Try to type the name of a missing album into the search field, or just a part of the name. At the bottom of the search results you may see some album names. I just found two previously deleted albums this way.
Are you sure she didn’t just close the My Albums folder? Try clicking on the triangle left of it.

An album is a collection of photos and video clips. Photos creates some albums for you, and you can create as many albums as you want to organise your photos the way you like. You can place photos in more than one album.
