ECG function on Apple Watch Series 5 is unable to measure my wife's steps

After purchasing a new Apple Watch 5 for my wife, who has a Pacemaker implant, we find that the ECG function is unable to measure her heart signals. It seems that the ECG measurement is nulled by the pacemaker’s signals resulting in an inconclusive reading. Has anyone else having this problem?

I have asked Apple Support who only confirmed that there might be some “interference” and that this statement can be found in the Apple Watch Use agreement. So far I have been unable to find such a statement and would appreciate any help in locating it

If you consistently receive an inconclusive result

If you consistently receive an inconclusive result, even after trying the steps above, it could be due to one of the following situations:

  • Your heart rate is between 100 and 120 BPM.
  • You have a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).
  • The recording may show signs of other arrhythmias or heart conditions that the app is not designed to recognize.
  • Certain physiological conditions may prevent a small percentage of users from creating enough signal to produce a good recording.
