Apple Music Family subscription - HomePod can only find primary users music and playlists

Hi. We have an Apple Music family subscription. We have enabled home sharing, and personal requests are on. The HomePod recognises my partners voice and when asked who is speaking the HomePod is able to identify both my partner and myself by name.

However, when we ask the HomePod to play music, the HomePod appears only to be able to access my library and playlists, but when my partner asks the HomePod to play his music and playlists in his library the HomePod cannot find it.

Just in case it is relevant, mine is the primary library, and I have both a family Apple Music subscription and an iTunes Match subscription. My partner only has the family Apple Music subscription and does not have iTunes Match.

Any suggestions how to fix this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Thanks Sterling. I followed all of the steps, including removing my partner from the home app and reinstating him and unfortunately it didn’t solve the problem.

However, I have managed to fix it and so thought I would post an update in case someone else comes across this random problem.

In settings on the HomePod under the section “music & podcasts” a default account is mentioned in case the HomePod doesn’t recognise the users voice. I removed this and then the HomePod started recognising both my partner and my separate voices to play our own playlists.

I was then able to add the default account back in, and everything continued to work as expected :-)

Hi Judy,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like your using Multiuser on HomePod and it’s not recognizing your partner’s music library. I’m happy to help.

I suggest having the affected user make sure that everything is set up correctly per the steps below:

Use multiuser on HomePod - Apple Support

If that doesn’t help, try removing them from the Home app on the device that set up the HomePod, and then set it up again.

Let me know if that helps.

Take care.
