My hard disk suddenly could not detect. When I look at the hard disk in the disk utility, it appears but the name is greyed out. I tried rebooting the computer, SMC and safe mode but the hard disk still could not be detected. I have no idea what is wrong. I tried changing cable to plug in and tried with a hub to plug the hard disk in and it's still doesn't work. The hard disk is running when it's plugged in.

Try restarting and leaving the hard drive connected.

however if it doesn’t it could be an issue with the hard drive, it could be damaged or in a format that your Mac doesn’t recognise.
Thank you! I will try out the method.
However, using some data recovery software seems to be able to detect the hard disk and they could read the content. Not too sure if the data recovery software would be a good choice for relocating the data to another hard disk and I will reformat the current one.
