Apple Watch display Becomes huge

Occasionally, for no apparent reason, the display on my Apple Watch becomes huge to the point that only a small portion of what is intended to be displayed can been seen on the watch face. I have been unsuccessful in getting the face to reduce display size on these occasions. It seems that it changes back on its own at some point, but is useless to the user during the time that the display is so large.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how does one reduce the size?
