charging IPhone 3G on a Sony AM/FM Clock Rado

Last year I bought a Sony FM/AM Clock radio ICF-C1iPMK2. I was able to listen to music on my IPhone and be able to charge the phone.

Everything worked as advertised until now.... I upgraded my software to the new 4.0 and now the Sony clock radio dioes not charg my phone. An I have gotten an "not a supported devise" .

Big problem. By midday my phone has no battery left. I realy do not want to buy a "new" clock radio.

Has anyoe else run into this problem?

I'm having the same problem with my Sony ICF-C7IP Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone with Hidden Sliding Dock Tray. I had not put it into the dock since upgrading to iOS 4 a few weeks ago. During that whole time I had my iPod Nano in the dock. When I now try the iPhone I get one of the compatibility warnings or nothing at all. It does not respond to the remote, but the clock does (volume). The Nano still works with no problem.

I don't see this problem, but it seems like random people see these types of problems on accessories. Can someone who is having a problem try resetting their preferences? You can do this by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. This doesn't affect the media or apps. It only resets the preferences. I'm very curious to see the results.

Hi all,

I also have a Sony ICF-C1iPMK2, and got an Iphone 4. As many other people the phone did not charge, and the music controls did not work.

I discovered a solution:
The problem is not the software or the connector configuration, but a loose adjustment of the connector and the dock. Tinkering with the phone a bit, solves it. In my case, I screwed in the plastic screw in the back of the ICF-C1iPMK2, to push the phone forward. Not only the phone charges, but the music controls work.

I discovered this while plugging the phone. At some point it did charge. It is likely the new Iphone connector is thinner, and the dock needs extra help for establishing a fair contact with the charger and control contacts.

It might also help some dock contact cleaning with a can of air. Over the years, mine accumulated some dust.

Also, in a different posting somebody noticed that multi-tasking might confuse the Sony software. Before plugging in the Iphone I turned off all multitasking apps. To be seen over the next days whether this is really necessary.

Has Anyone resolved this issue yet?

I have an official dock I use to connect my iphone 3g to my stereo while charging, but it stopped working afer i upgraded to os4.1.

Now it charges the iphone, but doesn't play the music (or rather, the music keeps playing through the iphone speaker and the remote doesen't work either...

I have a 3Gs with iOS 4.1. The clock recognizes the phone correctly, charges and plays music well, but after some time the whole thing crashes and loses time and alarm! And this is not funny if you have to wake up early the next morning.... It's strange because with its own battery it should not lose his memory if the electricity goes off...
I have no idea what the problem could be...

I have the same problem if i put the 3gs on to charge overnight the unit looses the time during the night and resets the unit back to factory time 12.00 1/1/2008
However if I put the phone on to play music then take it back off the unit keeps its time and the built in alarm and radio work fine it seems that once the iphone reaches full charge it crashes the docks clock. The preset radio stations remain on the dock so the battery must save them. Please help its driving me mad.

Sony have tested the dock and say they can find no fault with it and its something to do with apples latest software.

Since upgrading my iPhone4, I'm having a similar issue with the Sony Dream Machine ICF-C1iPMK2. It charges fine, but I can no longer use the iPhone as an alarm clock, or use the controls on the clock to play music. If I go directly through the phone controls, music plays fine. However, now the alarm clock is just a glorified iPhone speaker. I can't use the iPhone as an alarm, nor the clock remote to play music.

I had an appointment at the genius bar today, and the prognosis is not good. Rolling back the iPhone OS, while possible, isn't the optimal solution. The dock connector was completely clean too. The only option they had was to replace the phone. I'm a little depressed. This is my first apple product, and both the phone and clock radio are less than 4 months old. This is definitely not a good introductory experience and will certainly dictate future purchases.

I've been having the same problems with my Sony Dream Machine (ICF-C1iPMK2) -- charges fine, but the alarm doesn't work anymore and I get the "unsupported device" message occasionally. Has anyone had any luck finding a solution, or gotten anything out of Sony? I'm guessing they didn't follow Apple rules and have now been rendered incompatible with the latest updates to iOS. I plan to write to both Sony and Apple and ask for redress -- they both endorsed this product as an official iPhone compatible product.
