The iPhone 7 Plus actually does not have a physical button that gets depressed. You can verify this by turning the iPhone completely OFF and then pressing in the area where the button is. You will find that there is nothing that depresses and there is not button.
So, how do you get the sensation that there is a button there when the iPhone is ON? There is a "Haptic Engine" under and around the button area and when you put pressure on it then it vibrates/thumps lightly to create a button clicking sensation. That is what you are feeling and hearing lightly.
Hope this explanation helps.

Yes and that depends on which iPhone model that you have. The sound varies on certain mechanical aspects of your iPhone including the age of your iPhone.
