The app store app is not recognizing new apple id on iMac

The app store app is not recognizing new apple id on iMac. Instead, it defaults to old ID but will not recognize old ID or new ID.

Thanks donv. I just wish it would have been that easy. Please see my last reply to Eric Root for the complete resolution. I just hope my experience will save someone the trouble that I went through.

You are welcome. Are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?

Try setting up another admin user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Check the App Store and iTunes Store to see if there are any updates for apps/purchases. A request for another Apple ID password is often caused by updates to apps/purchases that were made when using the other ID. Those purchases are tied to the other ID and can't be transferred. One option is to delete the apps/purchases made by the other ID and download them using the new ID if desired. If necessary, check your purchases history to see which apps/purchases weren’t made by the current ID.

Thanks.

I am logged into my IMac with my new ID. But when I open the App Store, it asks for me to login. It will not allow any new app downloads or any app deletions unless I login.

Problem: it doesn’t recognize my new or my old ID or passwords. When trying to change my password as if I “forgot password”, after successfully changing the P/W, it still won’t recognize the old ID.

I spent 75 minutes with Apple answering questions and trying different things but it is still unresolved.

Thanks a lot Eric , I really appreciate it.

I set up another admin user account and did not have the same issues. I did spend three hours on chat and on the phone with senior Apple advisors.

We determined that the issue was caused by, as you had mentioned, setting up a new Apple ID without first logging out of iCloud, and of course some apps were downloaded under the previous Apple ID.

The fix was to delete hundreds of internal files associated with Keychain. Some of the apps were “confused” because of the previous ID and passwords in Keychain. I could have never fixed this on my own but the advisor kept working with me, sharing screens, until all was finally resolved.

Big lesson learned: never mess with your Apple ID until first logging out of iCloud.

Thanks again!
