You will have to put the device into Recovery Mode. That is found in these instructions here, If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

I assume that you mean you are using a PC. You have to use iTunes in order to restore to factory settings.

My old ipad2 is locked. I am following the Apple instructions as to how to restore the device so it can be used. The problem is my pc is not offering me the restore option. Itunes simply tells me that the ipad is locked and that I need to enter the code before it can connect with the ipad. How do I restore the ipad?
I have done that several times, hoping that "maybe this time I will get the restore option". Still only what was previously given. Is there anywhere else on the pc or itunes I could possibly look to get the restore option?
I brought up the activity window this time and hit the home button a second time. This seems to have worked. Thank you for your help. Perhaps I was not holding down the home button long enough on my several other attempts.
