I want to put a link in my pages document, that links to a document on my desktop. Help. thanks

Here your are talking with Pages users, like yourself. Your disappointment that Pages is missing a specific feature can't be cured by users; you need to talk to Apple.
Go to the Pages menu, choose Provide Pages Feedback.
Make a feature enhancement request.

PS: Don't expect instant results, or even a reply. Apple reads the Feedback messages, but replies only if more details regarding an issue are needed.
