iPhone 11 Pro won't switch to telephoto lens!

As we know, iPhone 11 Pro has three cameras:

  • 0.5× ultra wide (middle camera, beneath the flash)
  • 1× wide (top camera)
  • 2× telephoto (bottom camera)

… as shown below:

By covering the wide camera with my finger and tapping 2× button, I realized today my phone refuses to switch to the telephoto camera — the image remains obscured, even though my finger isn't covering the telephoto camera.

Instead of using optical zoom, it just uses digital zoom on the 1× camera like a single-camera iPhone, e.g. iPhone 11, iPhone Xr, iPhone 8, etc.

The ultra wide camera is unaffected, so I can switch between 1× and 0.5× without issue.

I'm running iOS 13.4.1 — the most recent update available.

If I force-quit the Camera app and/or restart my phone, the issue is temporarily resolved, but comes right back after toggling between 1× and 2× in the Camera app.

If you have iPhone 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max, please take a few seconds to cover your top lens and toggle between 1× and 2× and let us know if you're seeing the same issue!

According to this support article, 13.4.1 is the most recent.

If I go to Settings → Software Update in my iPhone, it says my software is up to date.

Edit:

Just found this YouTube video (September 24th, 2019 — nine days after the device was released) that demonstrates the same issue.
