Mac OS 10.14 Mojave unavailable in app store

I have a MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012), using High Sierra 10.13.6. Following the steps for upgrading to mac OS Mojave (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210190) the App Store link in step 4 (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-mojave/id1398502828?ls=1&mt=12) returns this error:

Item Not Available. The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store.

I would like to download and install the latest compatible version of Mac OS.

The message you're seeing is the App Store has detected a partial copy of macOS Mojave on your mac. Open the

Applications folder and look for Install macOS Mojave.app, move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Now connect your mac to your router via a cabled connection, WiFi is too unreliable. Restart your mac and go back to the Mojave page on the App Store, 'Open' will now have changed to 'Get', click on Get to start the download.

Do not use the mac while it is downloading, do not use other devices that share the same internet connection

while the mac is downloading.

You are right that Catalina is compatible with my MacBook Air-- I had internalized the wrong information. Catalina is incompatible with the apps I use, which is the other reason I wished to install Mojave.

Having now tried the app store link in both Safari and a Chromium based browser, it appears to be an error unique to Firefox.
