iPad mini 4 capabilities

Hi! I am wondering if the iPad mini 4 can run all apps or if you need the new version.

Update support for your iPad4 formally ended September 2017. The final IOS release for this model was iOS 10.3.3/4; it cannot be updated to any later major version of iOS as it lacks the minimum hardware requirements needed to run more recent versions.

Many App Developers have also dropped support for older devices and iOS versions preceding iOS12 - and have withdrawn older versions of their Apps from the Apple App Store.

As such, you may find limited availability for Apps that still support your iPad4. If Apps that you need to use now have higher minimum iOS-version requirements, your only option is to replace your iPad with newer model. Even the basic current iPad model supports current iPadOS 13.x - and has hardware specifications that will vastly outperform your old iPad4.

I hope this information is helpful.

I will add that I have a mini 4 and it is still running fine. Now if you’re going to be doing a lot of gaming or processor intensive stuff you may want to consider the mini 5 since the mini 4 has less RAM than the 5 I believe. But if you’re looking for surfing, etc, the 4 is fine.

And that lack of RAM is the basis for my saying the mini 4 may be reaching the end of its update life. I play a game on two ipads and do notice a significant lag on my 4 vs my ipad 6
