Apple TV Audio

Is anyone else having an issue with their Apple TV audio? Last night we went to watch a movie and there was no sound for the voice. The odd thing is that if we change the language to French or Spanish it works. We've done a factory reset and it still is doing the same thing. I had an Apple TV in another room and moved it to this location and it seems to be working fine, so I feel the problem has to be with the Apple TV device itself.

If you have stereo speakers, but have surround sound audio selected, then you may be missing the audio for the center speaker channel, where most of the dialog is.

The solution is to change the Audio Format to Stereo in Settings.

Thank you for the reply. In thinking through it, audio work not work in French and Spanish if the center speaker channel for audio was missing would it? The stereo system seems to be working correctly as I can use surround sound in that room with a different Apple TV device. Have you heard of a case where that Apple TV itself looses an audio channel?

Please look up the audio specification for each audio language for the movie that you were watching. The secondary audio track might be stereo 2.0 from the source.

What I am saying is, if you have 5.1 (or 7.1) going out of the Apple TV box, to the TV or audio system with two speakers, and that equipment also doesn’t process a downmix of its own, then 4 channels (or more) will be ‘lost’. If your setup is different, then this doesn’t apply.

If you hear music and sound effects, but no dialog, then this is what happened every time I have come across this.

If you have surround speakers and this happens, then check the wiring of the center speaker.
