Free up RAM/computer running slow

My computer runs very, very slow; its an iMac (late 2010) computer. I seemed to have maxed out my 4GB of RAM. I have checked the "Memory" column in the Activity Monitor and 1) the memory pressure is green and 2) something called Google Chrome Helper is listed several times and kernel_task is running which i cannot quit for some reason.

Ultimately, I would like to learn how to free up memory. As others have been told to do I ran EtreCheckPro to find out what is wrong with my computer.

2010 iMac can have max 16Gb memory, AND - the memory slots are user accessible. (likely, you have 2 slots free)

4G memory is barely can run nowadays softwares, especially memory hog Google.

Try to get memory from reputable vendors, such as Crucial and OWC.

Macs are very selective in terms of memory modules.

Please do NOT try to use "so call" "cleaner" softwares alike to temper your system

Wel, EtreCheck reports are intended to be posted here so others can help. It will not reveal any personal or security information. Please post the report here, using these guidelines:

Run it, select “Report" from the left-hand pane (scroll down to the bottom of that pane to find):

When its report displays, click the "Share Report" icon from EtreCheck’s toolbar and then "Copy report” from the resulting dropdown.

NOTE ⚠️ Please DO NOT highlight the text in the report before using Etrecheck’s “Copy report” command—that will garble the formatting and make the report slower and harder to evaluate.

NOTE: Changes in late 2018 to the forum software require you use the “Additional Text" icon (see example below) to embed the report into a post:

Paste the report into the resulting “Additional Text” window:

A posted EtreCheck report often leads to a very fast solution to problems.
