a damaged IPhone

So i had bought a used iphone 7 from someone i had asked if there were any problems with it and he said everything was fine with it. So he said he would sell it to me for $200 but he wanted the money upfront. Its not like i could've kept it for a few days to see how the phone really is. 2-3 weeks goes by and the phone started to get hot later found out it has battery issues..and now the phone is continuously restarting its self. I had factory reset it twice and its still the same. I cant even go through with the update without it restarting every minute. What should i do?

Was this Purchased Off of a Web Site?

If so, view the Terms & Conditions, and see if anything can be done about this. Typically, you'd see this being looked into further by the site itself, if you were to have purchased this off of a site like eBay.

Looks like you've been scammed. You see, the phone probably already was malfunctioning/had a bad battery. Confirm this by going into Settings>Battery>Battery Health to see battery health. If it's pretty low like below 80% or so you may want to get a new battery. At apple you can get a new battery, or you can try yourself using iFixit or something. NOTE: self-repair will void your warranty(if any). Opening screws is the point of no return.

Huh? Seems like no so-called "friend" to me.

If I went through this, I'd just blow it off, and not go through any legal matters.

But this is a user-to-user forum. No one here has any call in what you should do about this.

Good Luck.
