access for contacts
Can someone please explain to me how whatsapp requests access to my contacts and snapchat access for my camera?

You try to use one of the apps for the purpose that you identify. When you try to do that, the app should say that you need to grant access, and then you go to Settings to do that. Try to send a message in WhatsApp, and try to take a photo in Snapchat.
