Clearing Apple News Crashes App

iPad OS 13.4.1 5th Generation iPad

When trying to clear history in the Apple News App it crashes the app and does not clear any history.

Is there a way to set the limit, either in the number of days, weeks or months or number of news items that is stored in the History app?

I tried what you did without any problems. Force close the app and delete again then do a force restart https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/ipad/ipad63d30b5a/ipados and see if it can be reinstalled.

Thanks for the suggestion.

So I deleted the app or at least I thought I did but when I went into the App Store to download it again it just said 'Open' and no option to download it. So I rebooted the tablet and looked through all my apps to make a visual inspection that the News App is gone and it is. Go back to the App Store to download it and it still says open, not install. So I open the app from the App Store and try to delete the history. It crashes again.
