Mail App Using Excessive Memory (RAM)

Every time I run the built-in mail app for a while (like half an hour), the memory soars to 30 to 60 GB, which significantly slows down the whole system. Does anyone have the same issue?

Boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.

Did you


a) stop the process in Activity Monitor and/or

b) restart or shut down/boot up your Mac after changing the frequency?


I think at this point it would be helpful to download, run, and then post (use the little third icon from right in the toolbar) the report here, it is an excellent diagnostic tool:
