Which Mac book pro models would pair best with Final cut

Happy Easter!

Im in the market for a Mac book pro that would preform well with Final cut pro.

Ive looked into some of the older refurbished models i'm wondering if anyone has any experience in using final cut pro on a Mac book and what advise they would have?

Thanks

It all depends on the type of editing you do and the amount of money you wish to spend.

If you are doing fairly simple editing such as FHD and adding titles, effects, transitions, resizing etc. you will find that 4GB RAM will enable FCP X to perform perfectly well.

However, if you envisage using multiple layers of video and effects you will need 8GB RAM or more to avoid waiting around. for the computer to render the files.

As others have mentioned, plenty of VRAM is very useful if you are doing very complex editing.

It is impossible to tell anyone what will be best for them as everybody has different requirements, expectations and standards.

Just a bit more personal info . . .

For nearly 6 years I have been using my 2012 Mac mini to edit FCP X.

It was the cheapest model with the i5 processor and 4GB RAM, though I did add another 6GB.

It have had no problems editing any amount of 1080p material. Obviously a more powerful computer would render and export faster but it is no slow-coach.

Over the past few days I have done a bit of testing to see how it handled native 4K and the answer is, no problem!

I added effects, green screen and transformational resizing to the clips and the unrendered footage played back without dropping any frames.

Obviously you will be getting something far more powerful but it shows what you can do with very little.
