One of USB 3 ports doesn't recognise an WD HD... Help!

My MacBook Pro (2015 mid) has 2 USB 3 ports which had been working fine until this March. The one on the left became unable to recognise Western Digital Elements 1T HDD while it is recognised by the other one on the right.

The strange thing is that this left port recognise a USB 2 mouse (Logitech) and there is no problem.

I'd be very grateful if anybody could suggest what I should do to resolve this issue.

Many thanks.

First step is always rebooting

You can Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Try a different cable.
