Is there a way - without downloading some software - to recover a pdf in Preview that was closed without saving?
I printed an internet site page and opened in Preview. Then accidentally closed it.

No, you cannot recover something that was in memory and not saved.

or look in your Trash bin
Delete files and folders on Mac - Apple Support
From Time Machine interface trash items are only saved for 24n hours.
Alternatively you can search your browser history and retrace your steps.
If it was an internet site, it might be the easiest to go back to that site and start over?
Thanks to ALL of you! If I hadn't waited a day and Quit Preview, there might have been a chance, but it seems the answer is Kappy's - the age old Command-S. And babowa: easiest to go back to that site and start over.

How does that work for an unsaved document that isn't backed up? Does Preview provide versions support? I did not think it did.
