Yes, turning it OFF and ON again is a basic trouble shooting step most people know about,

and no it did NOT fix the issue. Battery drain is still a problem on my iPad.

I updated my iPhone XS Max and it does not exhibit the same problem.

Both devices were charged at the same time overnight and used about the same amount of time today:

  • Battery remaining on iPad; 25%
  • Battery remaining on iPhone; 75%

for the last 18 months the battery performance has always been within 5% over a 24 hour period.

FYI: I have a degree in Applied Computing and one in Computer Science and have worked as a computer engineer and QA

specialist for over 20 years, I know when a OS or firmware update changes the operation of a device and Apple has missed something this time around, please be up upfront and just admit an error was made and fix it.

Thanks,

Alf.

Same issue here....updated to 13.4.1 two days ago and experiencing significant decrease in battery life instantly. The phone (iPhone x) would hold a decent charge for at least 2 days....now 4 hours and it’s dead and that’s with minimal use. Just fetching email and a few phone calls.

Ive done all the resets, etc...any help is appreciated!

You might br surprised to learn that most common users here do not know anything about these iOS device reset procedures and many of the other iOS device troubleshooting techniques and other Settings modifications.

Other than those with the “Apple Specialist” label, I and everyone else here are just Apple product users here, just like you!

No one else here works for Apple.

I do not work for nor represent Apple.

Like so many here, I am just a regular volunteer user here, that volunteers their time and knowledge of various Apple products to try and help other fellow users here.

Actual Apple employees or teams of employees do not read nor participate in these user to user Apple product support communities.

So, your pleas are NOT reaching Apple from here, at all!

You are free and welcome to submit feedback about this issue to Apple.

This is only one of the few ways to directly contact Apple about ANY product issues.

iPad Feedback

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL feedback generated from all of the various feedback pages and transfers the data to the proper and responsible Apple teams and personnel, but NO Apple employees will ever respond with any type of direct, individual replies from the feedback you post.

The more users that post product feedback about any product issue, the faster Apple, in California, is made aware and starts working on a fix/solution for a future software update.

If you have such extensive computer knowledge and expertise and you have more knowledge of Apple products than most novice or average Apple product users, then I encourage you to volunteer your time knowledge in these Apple support communities, on a more regular basis, to be of help to your fellow users here.

Maybe you should make Apple aware of this possible cause for this battery drain issue.

There are bugs with Siri.

Someone in this post found that.

Siri is the bug.

So, if you do not use Siri all that much, just disable all Siri functions, for now.

Also send feedback to Apple

I had the same issue after update to 13.4.1 on my iPhone 8. Massive battery drain. What I realised was, that the drain also happened during idle times (no application was seen using battery during specific times). I turned off bluetooth in the settings (not the quick access function in the Notification Center). This solved the problem for me. I found this in another thread reported by a user https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251259807

For me it is clearly a bug in 13.4.1.

Unfortunately, turning off bluetooth on my iPhone seems to affect the HomeKit locations based rules. Most of the times my HomePod does apply the rules correctly, but sometimes it thinks I'm not at home and doesn't trigger the rules, or triggers rules which are defined when I'm not at home...

My iPad Air 2 doesn't show this behaviour.

Hope this helps as a workaround.

There are three main bugs that have NOT been fixed (two with AirPods Pro that just got updated today with NO fixes as well as our 13.4.1 battery issue):

1) ANC-issue since 2B588 firmware (released Nov. 2019) that remained in 2C54 and new 2D15 (released 5/5/2020): https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250887615?answerId=252591015022

2) Clicking sound on AirPods Pro that has been around for months also not fixed today with 2D15 (got worse for me).

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251050158?answerId=252591252022

3) iOS devices running 13.4.1 are having major battery drain issues since updating. There is no known fix as of today. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251265543?answerId=252584580022 (our thread)

Everyone that has this issue, please send Feedback to Apple about this.

1) Go to this link for iPhone: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Or this link for iPad: https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

2) Put your name and email.

3) Put the subject something like "iOS/iPadOS 13.4.1 Major Battery Issues" or something similar.

4) Mark the Feedback type as a "Bug Report".

5) Briefly discuss it. iOS/iPadOS 13.4.1 doesn't show up under the dropdown for "Which version iOS are you using" yet so either leave it blank or just use 13.4.

Submit it.

If you need to, if initial 1st tier Apple customer support is of no help to you, you can calmly ask to have this issue escalated up to more responsible, senior Apple customer support employees to see if they can come up with a more amiable/amenable solution to this iPad boot loop issue, but I make no guarantees, whatsoever.

If no acceptable resolution, Apple, at least, logs all support calls and issues and keeps a tally on how many of these calls are about different Apple product issues.

There is no fix/solution for this, currently.

This is a iOS/iPadOS issue that Apple needs to solve.

That's the problem.

Try going into the Settings app and making sure Bluetooth is toggled OFF in the main Bluetooth settings when NOT using Bluetooth devices.

Bluetooth has been mentioned here before as the issue causing the battery drain.

In Settings, General, either toggle OFF Background App Refresh for any apps that maybe getting updated through the Internet in the background and toggle OFF Background app Refresh for any apps that you feel do not need and data refreshing in the background..

OR

Simply toggle OFF Background App Refresh, GLOBALLY, for the entire iPad.

Someone else, also suggested doing a complete backup of your iPad's data, to iCloud or iTunes on a full computer.

Then setup your iPad as new and slowly only add back apps one, two, three at a time and test the iPad out the iPad for an hour, or so, each time to see how the battery performs for a short time until the battery drain starts re-occuring.

Apart from Bluetooth and Siri, the only other thing that I can think of is the display and camera. In any phone, the display consumes maximum battery. This update could have a bug with regards to the display and/ or camera since FaceTime was something they were trying to fix.

My recommendation until they roll out the next update:

Turn OFF from the Settings menu:

  1. Bluetooth
  2. Siri
  3. FaceID
  4. FaceTime
  5. Camera access (under Privacy)

May 12, 2020 9:47 PM in response to deep_chaudhary1612

Try this:

  1. From Settings, turn off:

i. Bluetooth

ii. Facetime

iii. Siri

iv. Camera access (turn it off for all apps under Settings/ Privacy/ Camera)

2.Clear all apps from memory (from the recents screen).

3.Force restart your device (on iPhone 7 Plus, you will have to hold both power and volume down buttons for 10 seconds or more until you see the Apple logo).

4.Turn all settings back on.
